Saturn Turns up Trumps for Boy George

On New Year’s Day 2009, Saturn – the bad boy of the Zodiac – turned his back on us.  Now for the first time this year, Saturn is grinding to a halt, poised ready to go direct this coming Friday. Someone set to profit from this turn about is Boy George. Boy George was imprisoned for fifteen months in – yes you guessed it January. Surprise surprise, Saturn rules his Capricorn midheaven, and on Monday, with Saturn moving into stationary direct mode, Boy George was released after doing just four months. Time to take a look perhaps at …. The horoscope of Boy George.

Boy George, June 14th, 1961, Bexley UK. Culture Club hit the scene in the early eighties and quickly took the UK and the US by storm. Culture Club were in fact the first band since the Beatles to have four top ten hits in the US chart from the same album. And Boy George was, well, georgeous…Thought I must admit, the first time I saw him on Top of the Pops I thought he was a girl! That’s Venus rising for you – and in Taurus too. Oh and let’s not forget – that fantastic voice. In fact there is much to praise in the chart. But….

“Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll” brought the boy down. Venus is chart ruler and Venus can’t get better than this, prominently placed in the first house and in her own sign. This lady is able and willing to deliver the goods. Stardom and succes came easily to  Boy George.. However, there’s a snag. Venus opposes Neptune – and I feel a giant hangover coming on. Think narcotics, escapism, emotionalism, and of course star allures. The persona (Neptune) Boy George created, is much bigger (Jupiter) than George O’Dowd, the guy  behind the facade. The Ascendant, Venus and Neptune all square Jupiter – so this is where the excess comes in. While Venus and Neptune always seem to be associated with pain and suffering in love,  Jupiter offers a way through this vale of tears: become larger than life. The Moon and Mercury in sensitive Cancer, broker their own deal with Neptune… And Neptune, is as always ever ready to reach out to the lost soul. Delirium will drown out even the most complex of emotions.

Saturn – which could have anchored the chart – is unfortunately unaspected in the 10th house. Not much joy there then. The reasonable voice..ignored. Well what do you expect?  It is also retrograde. We see the effect of this in Boy George’s life, he really has been unable to build – a very Saturnian activity – on his early successes. Saturn is in fact quite hostile to the emotional side of George. There could be a sizeable portion of self-hate going on here. I bet the bath tub is the one place where Boy George regularly poses himself this question: “where did it all go wrong?”. Saturn rules the midheaven. The name “Boy George” bears witness to an underdeveloped Saturn. Saturn stands for many things, but boyhood is not one of them.

Last but not least, Boy George is a Gemini. Gemini’s are complex beings, acutely aware of their own dichotomies. At times easily swayed and here drawn into the search for excitement by yet another outer planet, Uranus.

Saturn goes direct. Boy George is freed. I have a soft spot for the man…. and wish him well….
