Saturn opposite Uranus: Computer Hacking!

With the Saturn Uranus opposition now in full swing, it is interesting to see the way in which news stories inadvertently cover typical Saturn/Uranus topics. Take computers for example. Most astrologers would agree that computers and the internet, fall under the rulership of Uranus.  Regulation of internet however, and the safeguarding and policing of the information passing over it, is a job for Saturn.  It is the natural condition of Saturn to seek to contain, control and to structure, while Uranus is always inclined to find new roads to travel along. Uranus sets the pace and Saturn lumbers along behind him. Hacking is defined as: unauthorized attempts to bypass the security mechanisms of an information system or network. When a succesful hack occurs, Saturn has clearly failed in his duty.

In the UK, the High Court will soon decide on the fate of Scottisch hacker, Gary McKinnon, who succesfully hacked US military systems. Will he be extradited?  All will soon be revealed!! China has been very active on the hacking front of late. Last week on Saturday, a Chinese flag and anti Kadeer slogans suddenly appeared on the website of an Australian film festival. The festival was targetted because it was programmed to show a film about the life of  Uighur activist Rebiya Kadeer.  While in the Spring of 2009, the British Secret Service warned Gordon Brown that the British Telecommunication Network could be taken over by Chinese hackers, who could then turn off the electricity supply in England. So…Uranus is definitely full on at the moment…but what’s Saturn doing to retaliate?

Following his review of internet security, President Barak Obama started the ball rolling in the US.  A current bill working its way through congress called the Cybersecurity Act is proving quite controversial as it allows the internet to be shut down – if a major security breach occurs. This is indeed a scarey thought. Iran immediately springs to my mind. The net proved – if only for a short while – its ability to give people a voice. It is a powerful democratic tool. However…. there are issues here for sure.

Much of our equipment is made in China. It is not difficult for programmers to hide codes in chips – and these codes are extremely difficult to find. So there is a problem and it is good that it is being addressed.  When the world wide web was launched on Aug 6th 1991, Uranus was conjunct Neptune in Capricorn. With Pluto now inching its way towards this conjunction…. it is wise to keep our eyes and ears open.  Horoscope launch world wide web:
