Speaking as a Brit – or should I say – as an ex-pat, I am astounded by the way that snow-fever thas descended on the mother country. The BBC news these days, is all about that good old fashioned British obsession – the weather. In Amsterdam – we just keep on cycling – business as usual. In the UK, everyone’s gone mad! All other news coverage has drifted quietly into the background. It’s all about snow, snow, snow. That is, until the Big Freeze hit Parliament. There was a failed coup yesterday to unseat the PM, Gordon Brown. It was a botched job – so Gordon is just about in from the cold. However, there is an election due this Spring. Time methinks to take a look at the horoscope of UK . Jan 1st, 1801, 00.00, Westminster. 7 degs. 9 libra rising.
Well let’s start with chaos on the roads. Mercury – ruler of commuters and short journeys – is transitting retrograde around the IC of this chart. Major hold-ups on the roads are causing huge problems. With motorways such as the M3 grounding to a halt – Mercury conjunct the Sun suggests huge organisational challenges. Managers and businesses everywhere are effected. The UK horoscope has Mercury in detriment in the third house. In detriment mark you. This explains the way we harp on about our chosen subject: in this case the snow. Our enthousiasm know no bounds. Mercury is ruler of the 8th and 12th house. The 12th is especially interesting in the light of the failed coup – it is after all the house of hidden enemies. There is more than meets the eye in the attempt to oust Mr. Brown. Lot’s of back stage scheming methinks. SAturn too – as ruler of the house of the opposition party – the fourth – is lurking about and up to no good on the ascendant. But exalted so looking strong and rearing to cross the finishing line – i.e. to grab power.
So why didn’t the secret supporters of the coup come out in the open? Why did they keep their cards close to their chests? Names like Harriet Harman, David Milliband and even Jack Straw wafted around the place – but all three eventually came down on the side of Brown. Why?
At present, Gordon Brown has Pluto transitting his midheaven – and Pluto is currently squaring an exalted Saturn in Libra. These are the big guns of the zodiac – and they are ready for firing. Harman, Milliband, Straw all consider themselves as possible successors to Brown – and yesterday all three were staring down the barrel. They no doubt realised that to cross Gordon Brown now would be paramount to committing political suicide. Far better to live and fight another day!!!
