The Aries Ingress – Elizabeth Hathway

snowd

Spring arrived yesterday – though in a wet and windy Amsterdam, it was hard to take in. At 17.33 GMT (from a geocenctric perspective), the Sun on its journey along the ecliptic, crossed the celestial equator, which marks for us, the zero degree Aries point. Astrologers have always considered the Aries ingress (and the arrival of the Sun in each of the cardinal signs ) to be hugely important. This is because at these points in the Earth’s journey around the Sun – the Earth is compelled to obey universal laws, it has to subjucate itself to the power of the Sun, because if it didn’t, the Earth would break out of its orbital path. The cardinal ingresses are turning points, and turning points suggest change of direction, not only in the heavens, but also here on earth. The Aries ingress is in my opinion particularly powerful in the Northern Hemisphere, because it carries with it the dyanamic of new life, the energy of Spring, and it is the sign in which the Sun is exalted. It is often said that the Sun’s  ingress into the cardinal signs, determines events within the collective for a period of around 3 months – which means the periode between two cardinal ingresses.

Mars, after a long period retrograde (from Dec. 20 09 til March 10, 2010) is direct in this horoscope . In fact once in Aries, the first planet the Sun meets is its own ruler, Mars. There is a strong mutual reception in this chart between the Sun in Aries and Mars in Leo. This allows the two planets to feed each other, pump each up other if you like. This is a firery, powerful, forward moving type of energy that brokes no oppositon and will not suffer fools gladly. Impatient, perhaps more that  a litte brash, but what a fantastic force for change, this can be. These two planets combined have a confrontational vibe to them, which stems from a strong belief in self.

Next stop for the Sun – is Saturn – which is the sign in which the Sun is in detriment. Force meets force – Saturn is exalted in Libra. We could view Saturn – certainly from the mundane perspective – as the establishment, the powers that be, the system itself, the concept of state as being from the cradle to the grave. Issues surrounding freedom of the individual vs. the meddling hand of the powers that be. Cut-backs in Government spending, confrontation over work and income. The Big Freeze sets in. Saturn wants to structure and control, Sun and Mars want none of that. There is a clear conflict of interest within the collective, which is also reflected in the ascendant/descendant axis which picks up on the degree areas of last years, Saturn/Uranus opposition – which incidentally is not yet fully played out. These two will face each other again, over the early degrees of Aries/Libra later on this year. Pluto is also in the picture, though Saturn might seem at the moment to be slipping away from him. BUT Pluto is lurking – adding his own particular brand of fuel to the fire. Undercover, working behind the scenes, the servant of those who will reward him best. Pluto in Capricorn has two faces – he can serve his own interests and the best interests of capitalism- or he can go underground, pair up with the counter culture and add his powerful energy to forces for change. Which ever way you look at it, the results seem to be same…. The tension rises… it could be a long hot summer. Cardinal conflict is deep and intense, it cuts to the core, because something must change, but there is no clear consensus as to what that something should be.

Meanwhile back in the meadow… The Moon is grazing. A Taurus moon can be more than a little lazy and disinterested, especially if the grass in the meadow is green. Complacency. However, the Moon is in the very last degree of Taurus.  Stability still rules supreme – yet this is a stability that is poised to give way to a Geminian dynamic.

So far the collective… But what about US? Where do we fit in? How can we galvanise this particular flow of energy and put it to good use? Look at where the 0 degree Aries point falls in your chart, because this is a degree that is in business this year. On June 8th Jupiter will conjunct Uranus at exactly this spot. There is brilliance here, something shiny and new. It’s not my job to guess for you, what this means, only to point you in the general direction. “Look here.. and work with it.” In my own horoscope, 0 degrees aries, falls in my fourth house. I know what I have to do….
