Rememberance Day: The Treaty of Versailles

At the 10  minutes past 5, on the morning of November 11th, 1918, the Treaty of Versaille was signed in Versaille. It would take an estimated 6 hours for the news to reach all the troops in the field. The cease fire itself was signed in a railway carriage in Compiegne France, at 11 o’  clock in the morning.  A war that had cost the lives of around  16 million people had finally came to an end. At 11. o clock, on 11th November,  people accross the UK still remember the dead of all wars, by holding a two minutes silence. On the nearest Sunday, at the Cenotaph (which means empty tomb”, crowds will gather, as they have done since the first commeration there in 1919. This article looks at the horoscope for the Treaty of Versailles (11/11/1918, 05. 10, Versaille) and for the time that the armistice took affect (11/11/1918 om 11.oo at Compiegne,France)  will form part of a series. The horoscope for the armistice.

The first interesting point in this horoscope,is the position of Venus is in the 10th house. Venus is often angular when peace is made, signalling as they do, an end to fighting. Here Venus is conjunct with the Sun in Scorpio, which forms the focal planet of a fixed t-square, also involving Saturn and Uranus. This was a victory – but a bitter one – there were no real winners. The Saturn/Uranus opposition is often linked to modernity, particularly to the conflict between old and new methods and techonologies. It was during the latter phase of the war for example that the tank arrived. However Saturn is in Leo, so also representing the old order of the monarchy and state, while Uranus is in Aquarius, suggesting the emergence of new countries and ideologies. Think here of the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the Russian Revolution. The Moon in the chart – the people – is also in Aquarius – and deeply involved in the t-square. Many people were deeply traumatised by what they experienced between 1914-1918, and the Moon here says something about the politics and allegiances of the time. It was abstract (Aquarian) forces and ideological perspectives surrounding allegiance- that drew the population of Europe into a war, the like of which – thankfully- has never been seen since. Jupiter – in the sign of its exaltation Cancer – is also angular in the 7th house suggesting collaboration. Jupiter’s angular position is also indicative of  a widespread sense of release from immenent danger, and suggests the renewal of hope. Mars is now in the 12 house (suppressed or contained violence) and exalted in Capricorn. Furthermore Mars is bang on the axis of the world, and ruled by Saturn in the 8th. This guarantees the souls of the noble dead warriors, a memorium that will honor them for ever more.

The second in this series of articles will look at the start of the First World War: the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand.

The horoscope for the signing of the Treaty of Versailles:

Libra rises, the Venus/Sun conjunction was in the first house. Neptune – indicator of suffering – is conjunct the midheaven – and opposite the significator of the people, the Moon. Mars is in Sagittarius – and will have changed sign by the time the armistice came into effect. On the last hours of the fighting, a further 83.000 people died. Saturn and Uranus are both angular. Uranus in the 4th and Saturn in the 10th, are good indicators of the total upheaval to both states (4th) and leadership (10th).

1 Reactie op Rememberance Day: The Treaty of Versailles

  1. Yesterday evening, 11th November, there was an interesting documentary on Belgium television about the last day of the First World War. The presenter was Michael Palin. This made me realise that there were a few mistakes in my text. The Treaty of Versaille was signed at 05.10 in the morning at Versaille. The armistice took effect at 11 o clock. To correct this, I have added the horoscope for the actual signing of the Treaty. Liz
