Saturn’s station in Libra: Equipoise…

I don’t know about you.. but speaking for myself Saturn’s movement towards its station in Libra feels pretty head on to me. But then.. I have the Sun, Moon, and Mars in Capricorn, Cancer and Aries respectively – and all three are coming under heavy fire right now, located as they are in that neat little triangle that is 23 to 25 of the cardinals. Thinking about this long ‘hang-out’ Saturn is having in the 23rd degree – a word spontaneously sprung to mind, equipoise. Nice word, equipoise, meaning balance of forces or interests, equality in distribution as of weight, relationship or emotional forces. A counterpoise, a counterbalance. In terms of medical treatment, equipoise means there is uncertainty whether the treatment will be beneficial or not, and in sport, it means maintaining a balance between fearless boldness and commonsense caution. Quite a word equipoise – with a lot of meanings which I feel are applicable to this long sit of Saturn around the 23rd degree.

The last time transit Saturn in Libra squared my Capricorn sun and Cancer moon and opposed my mars in Aries, it was a one hit wonder and I was only 25, so a longer transit would really have been wasted on me. Now however, I feel ripe for the transit, and am actually in some unique way, enjoying it !! Yes.. Capricorns really are weird and they do get on with Saturn! But seriously the emotional ripening, mental steadying of purpose, and self discipline (which a wayward Mars in Aries definitely needs) can only be seen as enriching. Clearly the cosmos is perfect in every way – and Saturn certainly when allowed to do his thing in Libra, where he is after all exalted – is not looking for major restructuring, but for the development of ‘equipoise‘.

Yes it does feel like a lot of things hang in the balance at the moment, there is an awareness that a decision, once taken, carries responsibilities with it, there is no stepping back. This – one could almost call it maturity – is also in evidence in the collective at the moment. There is a sense of restraint, holding back, waiting, assessing, weighing up, damage prevention: Greece, Italy, Spain, Germany, the Euro, Syria, the US elections… there is everything to play for, yet all hangs in the balance. Will the action taken have the desired results, will it work or won’t it? There we have that wonderful word again…. Equipoise..

June 25th will see Saturn inch forward again, ploughing its way through that little triangle once more, past Mars, the Moon and finally the Sun. I almost hold my breath in anticipation.
