Astro-Insight: The Moon’s Nodes, Mercury, Jupiter – time to make a mission statement

Astro-Insight: Anyone who follows my ‘Liz Hathway Astrologer’ page on Facebook, will know I have been pondering the meaning of today’s Mercury/Jupiter conjunction. Mercury is currently in its own sign Virgo and it rules the Moon’s North Node, representing future challenges, hope, growth, expansion. Jupiter is the traditional ruler of Pisces the current South Node ruler, and it is in Virgo. The South Node indicates lessons that need to be learned (or consciously assimilated) , obstacles to surmount, the journey that has been and skills we picked up on the way. Taking a long term perspective on this conjunction, if you want the same planets with the same nodal positions then I think you will find it is rare. The nodal cycle is approx 18 years – and not every time the N.Node is in Virgo will Jupiter be there too. I have just started researching this – and want to share this example with you of the  South Node in Virgo and North Node in Pisces. Here we have the same planets but with reversed nodal rulership. Mercury and Jupiter were conjunct in 5 degs Pisces on 23 February 1998, the date Osama bin Laden published an important fatwa against ’the Jews and crusaders’. This document is regarded as the founding document of the World Islamic Front. At the time Neptune was in the 1st degree of Aquarius!!  Look out for powerful statements under this conjunction, the significance of which, will only be apparent in years to come, possibly when the nodal axes is triggered again by the same planets.

Clearly we can take something from this. I think this is a brilliant time to make your own mission statement, to launch a marketing campaign or to get others involved in your business plan.

princess of disksAstro-Insight: the Sun entering Virgo today – made me think of the tarot card the Princess of Disks. This is a wonderfully earthy card. The Princess points the way inward, as does Virgo. The tip of her spear glows with light, her eyes are focused on something being revealed from an interior realm. Virgo is in control of her own desire and destiny, is full of the potential of the young maiden. At this point in the year cycle, we can find inspiration within. Virgo is also a time of harvest. Which in a way is a dichotomy. The harvest suggests ripeness, the fulfillment of a year’s naturual cycle. The virgin is more suggestive of fertile but as yet untilled earth. Such complex duality is at the very heart of the mutable signs, this is where summer, starts to surrender to the dynamic shift of the seasons that precedes autumn proper. The promise of lazy summer days, hailed under the Sun in Leo, shift to earthy, hands on concerns. Schools re-open, agenda’s are set, Parliaments resume, it’s back to business (one of Mercury’s favorite concerns).

Astro-Insights:
On Wednesday, Mars finally does what he has been threatening to do all year: namely he conjuncts Saturn. Thank goodness for that, now we can move on. This conjunction signals the beginning of a 2 year cycle. Look in your birth chart at the house it falls in. In this area you might want to fight for your ideas, ideals, your philosophy, or your right to be anyone one or to do anything. Mars wrestles with Saturn and produces energy, the art is to use it well. Sagittarius can be incredibly knowledgeable, but the tendency to want to teach others how to live,  or how to do things, can lead to a ‘my way or the highway’ mentality which can be incredibly irritating. Mars adds an argumentative edge to Saturn who wants to set limits and borders, a difficult challenge when in expansive Sagittarius. Furthermore, Neptune is also around the corner and the word ‘limit’ is not in his vocabulary.  Mars squares Neptune on Friday. The search for balance, harmonizing self with others, finding a place to be yourself, is set to be one of the major challenges in the year ahead. Fortunately, Jupiter will enter Libra on September 9th. This sets us up nicely for a stunning mutual reception with Saturn. Things will reveal themselves in due course. Mars is hot and wants to steam ahead. Perhaps running into Saturn and Neptune will do him some good.

The energy for some plan seems to have run its course.  We should be mindful however that power and strength aren’t everything. This is something that women in particular understand very well. Who isn’t strong – must be clever and Virgo is strategic and with Mercury soon turning retrograde… it might be time for a major re-think. .

On a final note.. Venus also conjuncts Jupiter this week Sunday. Venus too is poised for good things. She enters Libra – her domicile – on August 30th. Venus sits uncomfortably with Jupiter – and criticism could be a big issue this week – particularly in relationships. How to take criticism on board if it is just and how to learn and grow from it? Mars conjunct Saturn can be too defensive, or take a ‘know it all’ attitude, so no gains are made at all. The best we can do is be very pragmatic, focus on the details without getting bogged down in them and be open to good, sensible advice. … All good things this week ahead… Liz
