Astrology: Dear Theresa May… a response from Donald Tusk

When Donald Tusk received Theresa May’s letter triggering article 50, late Cancer was rising in Brussels. Late Cancer, carries all the feeling and nostalgia of a sensitive sign, so in terms of planetary language, Tusk’s initial emotional reaction was sincere. However,  minutes later, Tusk made it clear that ‘I and the commission have a strong mandate to protect (Cancer) the interests of the 27.’

In contrast with yesterday, when Theresa May signed the letter triggering article 50, ascendant ruler the Moon, is no longer combust, nor is it even under the sun’s beams, it is in the 10th house and has significantly more power to act. The Moon is in close trine with Saturn, so the horoscope exemplifies the notion that formal (Saturnal) discussions are set to commence. The Moon is also closely conjunct with Mercury – and in every respect – Mercury is the key planet here.

When Theresa May triggered article 50, Virgo was rising. In the hours between signing and receipt, the position of Mercury, Virgo’s ruling planet has changed significantly. Mercury has lost all its essential dignity and is now peregrine. A peregrine planet is without friends and has little power to act. Mercury is the natural ruler of trade, of cross-roads and of words. language and letters. The wider reaction to the six page letter, made it clear that many in Brussels considered it to contain veiled threats. With mighty Jupiter (currently transiting UK’s first house) square power broker Pluto and opposite wild card Uranus -this  is perhaps not surprising.  Furthermore, the UK is currently under the sway of a Pluto transit opposite the Moon and an awful lot depends on how the negotiations with Europe proceed.

In the receipt horoscope, the  Moon trines Saturn before reaching Mercury. Mercury is detrimented in Sagittarius, Saturn’s current sign position. The message received is unwelcome and as Tusk noted, there are no winners here, this is a letter Europe would rather not have received. May’s letter ascendant, falls in the third house of the receipt horoscope – which all in all – makes the change in Mercury’s dignity highly significant.
