Barack Obama: Personal Text Message

Some time ago, I registered myself at barackobama.com. In the course of the last few weeks I have received a number of interesting emails, usually starting with Dear Liz. I haven’t actually bought the first edition bumper magnet, or the t-shirt, or pressed the [donate} button. To be honest I didn’t sign up for the personal text message announcing Barack Obama’s choice of running mate either because, after all, I can’t vote. But in view of the Saturn/Uranus opposition accross the MC/IC axis in Washington on election day, I am very interested in the role that the modern media, particularly the internet has played and is playing in the run up to November’s election. The BBC conveniently placed a nice picture on its website of the text message that Barack Obama’s team sent out announcing Joe Biden as his running mate. The time given was 03.04, (23 aug.) and this horoscoop is located for Washington.

It’s an interesting little chart, isn’t it? Uranus – ruler of modern technology in the house of research and development – is in watery Pisces in opposition with Mercury in its own sign Virgo. A virtual flood of emails reaching people all over the US served to create a very clevery staged publicity stunt – and a first of its kind in US history. With the Moon in Taurus – tying both ends of the opposition nicely together, it will not surprise you to learn that Barack Obama made over 1.000.000 yes that is one million – dollars – in donations the day following this advertising campaign. Taurus once again confirming its status as the most materially capable of all the signs.

There is an abundance of earth in this chart – five planets in total – and there is little doubt that the choice of Joe Biden is a practical one. Biden is the older statesman. The man of experience, willing to talk back. It’s Joe Biden’s job to fill in the blanks. Barack Obama has undoubtedly made a very pragmatic, well informed, natal Saturn in Capricorn sort of choice. 

Interestingly, Biden shares the same sun sign as Hilary Clinton. In fact Joe Biden and Hilary Clinton both have Mercury at 21degs. 32 Scorpio – square to Barack Obama’s ascendant/descendant axis and on his Sun/Moon midpoint. This is a challenging aspect that’s for sure. Just as Hilary Clinton proved herself to be a formidable opponent (fixed signs are not inclined to give way) Biden too will challenge Obama but in a different way. With Biden’s Pluto conjunct with Obama’s Sun – the whole idea is that Biden will add weight to the Obama campaign. However my guess is that both these guys will change in significant ways, through the encounter.
