Yes We Can: Obama Rocks the States

It’s been a long night… I set the alarm for 03.30 LT in Amsterdam… turned on the television and watched and waited. After all, it’s not every night you get to witness history in the making. At 11.15 pm in Phoenix Arizon, with the Moon in Aquarius just dipping under the horizon, John McCain graciously conceded defeat. The Moon is a significant planet in the US chart – ruling as it does – the country’s Cancer Sun. Then at 11.55 pm in Chicago, IL, Barack Obama took the stage. Here are both horoscopes

This moment resonates so strongly with Barack Obama’s own horoscope. His progressed North Node and Venus bracket the ascendant. The Node is about the principle of shared destiny and Venus the greater benefic, is significant since it is the planet that is the natal ruler of the USA’s 10th house. Tranist Moon here in early Aquarius trines Barack Obama’s own Moon in early Gemini. The element air is about connections, and in mundane astrology, the Moon is about the people. We all breathe the same air. The contrast between the all-white Republican supporters in Arizona and the mixed crowd of Barack Obama supporters in Chicago, was striking. Really striking.

Amongst the Democrats there was a sense of jubilation, relief and emotional release. After 8 years of crying in the wilderness, victory at last. And on the BBC there was mention of a prophetic quote made exactly forty years ago by J.F. Kennedy, that a “negro’ would win the presidency. Kennedy was right.

The BBC coverage led by David Dimbelby was fantastic.

I was particularly moved to see Jesse Jackson crying in the victory crowd gathered in Chicago. Jesse Jackson would surely have loved to run for president. Even twenty years ago this day would have been impossible. And yet there he stood. Weeping. Unbelievable. What a truly unbelievable night. Perhaps not quite a landslide…but certainly earth moving in more ways than one.
