Even after several viewings, I am still stunned by the image of George W. Bush ducking shoes during a news conference in Iraq. Stunned by the power of the words the shoe bearer himself hurled at Bush. Stunned by the power of a gesture to convey a message, in a world that is normally numb to such things. After all, we fear those who throw bombs, not shoes. The BBC succinctly summed the incident up as follows: “This gesture says more than a thousand words.” Exactly. Time perhaps to take a look at George W. Bush’s legacy.
The horoscope of George W. Bush.
If George W. Bush’s presidency is to be found under the tenth house of his birth chart, then his legacy, the fruits of his 8 years in Governement, will be found under his 11th house. Profits from work. George Bush has Uranus conjunct the North Node in the 11th house at 19 degrees Gemini, so that both planet and Node are now being drawn into the current opposition of Saturn and Uranus. Shocking stuff. Indeed. His legacy is linked to the overthrow of a dictator – which in itself implicates both Saturn and Uranus. The great themes of revolution, dictatorship and the struggle for new order are all part and parcel of this same planetary cocktail.
On the day of the incident, Sunday 14th December, Venus was in Aquarius conjunct the North Node and also conjunct with Bush’s descendant, the house of open enemies. Though Bush was left unharmed by the attack, Venus is after all a benevolent planet, the oppositions Venus made to radix Mercury and Pluto in Leo – leave us in no doubt that Bush understood the message. Mercury is after all the natural ruler of Bush’s 11th house, his legacy. The message struck at the heart of Bush’s failed politics of fear. Here, in Iraq, and before the eyes of the world, Bush was called to account. He was reminded of the devastating human cost of the War on Terror, particularly for the women and innocent children of Iraq. The Moon in Cancer on that day, ruler of Bush’s Sun, in his 12th house, the house of individual karma, seems to implicate Bush even further in the current collective chaos. The shoes themselves draw us towards Pisces and the 12th house.
I felt that Sunday was a sad day for the US. For George W. Bush personally, it was a day of reckoning. This gesture, by a young Iraqi reporter, just about says it all.
