One of the first things we must remember when looking at the inauguration chart is that since President Roosevelt the time and date of the inauguration ceremony has been fixed. It always takes place on January 20th, and the swearing in ceremony itself is at 12 noon. The ascendant is therefore around 14 degrees Taurus, the midheaven is around 25 degrees Capricorn, and the Sun always in 0 degrees Aquarius. Also because of the close proximity to the Sun, the positions of Venus and Mercury too, are limited. With so much fixed in this chart, it is little wonder that the whole event is carefully choreographed and steeped in tradition. So what we are looking for in the inauguration horoscope are things that make it in someway unique. Things like – for example, the Sun conjunct Jupiter.
If we take a (extremely quick) glance back to George W. Bush’s inauguration (1st term, 2001) we find that the Sun on inauguration day was conjunct with Neptune. Need I say more? Spin, deception, lies, subterfuge, mistrust, fall from grace, loss of power and authority….okay. A virtual Neptunian overdose. Enough said. Indeed.
Looking now at Barack Obama’s inauguration later today, the Sun, ruler of Barack Obama’s birth sign Leo, meets Jupiter, here in the sign of our common humanity, Aquarius. This has a much truer, much more humanistic ring to it. The water bearer pours out reason and quenches our thirst for truth. Jupiter and the Sun are both linked to Royalty, and it must be significant, that today the Sun in Aquarius is conjunct with Barack Obama’s own natal Jupiter. This is a truly powerful signature.
The whole world is filled with hope. So strong can our sense of common humanity be. One world – linked up – and filled with a sense of renewed destiny and hope. This is Jupiter … Undiluted. And mighty strong stuff it is too.
