Horoscope Mickey Rourke: The Wrestler

The enfant terrible of Hollywood is back. I first became enamoured with Mickey Rourke after seeing the cult film Rumble Fish. There was something vulnerable and yet incredibly attractive in Rourke and millions of women (and not a few good men) around the world will definitely agree with me on that count. Though Rourke’s career path has taken some strange turnings, his is definitely not the classic from fame to glory story, his return to Hollywood with the film The Wrestler has not gone unnoticed. In fact he just won a Bafta… so what next? Let’s get into the ring and grapple with the horoscope of Mickey Rourke.

(Micke Rourke: 16 sept. 1956, Schenectady, NY) With transit Saturn crossing Micke Rourke’s Jupiter in VirgoMickey Rourke started filming the Wrestler. The film that was to relaunch his acting career. I find this an interesting role for Rourke who himself left Hollywood at the height of his fame, to return to his first love: boxing.  So..Though we don’t have a birth time for Mickey Rourke this information alone points to one particular aspect in the horoscope.

Mars opposite Jupiter explains Rourke’s fascination and love of boxing. Mars has to do with sporting prowess and here in Pisces it is ruled by Jupiter. So, he loves whatever Jupiter stands for. This particular opposition however – probably points to a lack of success in this field. He won a few fights along the way, but this guy was never going to be a Muhammed Ali. Ali has Mars in Taurus square Pluto – and he really packs a punch. Rourke’s Jupiter in Virgo – is in detriment  – so my advice to him would probably be “Don’t give up your day job”…And he didn’t. From time to time Mickey Rourke returned to his “other” profession acting.

With Saturnus in contact with the Sun, even though we are talking sextile here and not square, we get a glimpse of the vulnerability that certainly hallmarked Rourke’s early life and his first film rolls. Saturn contacts can leave us feeling a bit bruised or overly cautious. Rourke’s father died when he was six. He took up fighting for self defence.

The daring and unusual choice of film rolls and strange career moves, probably relate to Venus conjunct Uranus possibly in opposition with the Moon. There is a random, erratic quality to this combination and the emotional life is subject to upset and change. Mickey Rourke is looking for excitement… The prominance of Leo also donates a strong need to be the center of attention. There is a strong need to shine.

Saturn is still a main player in the horoscope. It is set to cross the Sun this coming year, and Uranus too will hack into the Sun in his birthchart. While Saturn will undoubtedly bring new offers and prominence, and possibly even the ultimate prize, an Oscar, there will also be big challenges for  Mickey Rourke in 2009. In the past Rourke has shown himself to be difficult and has been known to take flight into drink, drugs and surgery…. Saturn is about borders, Uranus is about passing over them.

If you ask me, Rourke’s big challenge in 2009 will be to tame the demon in himself. His greatest wrestling match has just started…
