Collaboration Microsoft/Yahoo – A Jupiter/Mercury deal?

It’s good to keep a keen eye on the sky when important business deals take place.  Take for example the recently announced collaboration between Microsoft and Yahoo. The two have got together to a) grab a larger share of web generated marketing monies, and b) to thwart Google’s attempt to chip away at Microsoft’s core business of providing software for cheap computers.  So, does the horoscope show a good deal of succes? The chart is set for the time the information was posted on the Yahoo website – July 29th, 17.50 ET. Since one of the reporters was in Washington…I took Washington as locality.

The two main planets that relate to search engines – are Mercury and Jupiter. Jupiter is the bestower of knowledge and Mercury is the enquiring mind that desires to know more. The medium in which all this takes place is the internet – which falls under the rulership of Uranus. Bearing this in mind,  the opposition between Mercury/Jupiter – certainly for this location where the planets rule the ascendant/descendant axis- is a stressful one. The two partners involved have difficulty in seeing eye to eye and could fall out with each other.  One tends to be more dominant, have more say in matters, than the other. Jupiter is also retrograde – which of itself suggests a slow start or possibly start up problems.  The Moon in Scorpio applying to both planets – could offer some solace. The Moon does after all represent the potential users of the service – and its position as focal planet in a t-squre undoubtedly points to interest in the products this collaboration will provide. We could even take a broader perspective and see the Jupiter/Mercury opposition as symbolizing the struggle between Google and Yahoo/Microsoft for market position.  That such announcements are made under perfect planetary conditions is quite remarkable.

The Sun – in this horoscope represents top management, the grand plan, the major strategy – and is technically very well placed in Leo. This gives great leadership potential. However, the Sun is unaspected, which somewhat detracts from its strengths.  Perhaps people in positions of power, will not always do the things they should do. There could be a  failiure to act decisively at times.

My feeling is that this collaboration will be slow getting off the ground. It will take quite some time before we get to see what’s on offer here. It could even be some years before the product on offer become sdeveloped enough to fully establish itself as a rival to Google.  The Moon in Scorpio is slow moving – and customers are already really familiar with rival -Google’s product.

So is this just a sleeping Lion collaboration? No. I suspect that in time Microsoft/Yahoo will start to bare its teeth.  Progressed Mercury will gradually move into its own sign Virgo and the progressed Sun will also sextile Mars in due course. Remember the story of the toritoise and the snail? But seriously. The chance of Microsoft/Yahoo snatching the crown is pretty remote, however, I think this is a tree that will bear some interesting fruit!
