Michael Douglas and the Pain of Pluto Transits

Hard times for the Douglas family household.  Money can soften a lot of life’s blows, but a son (Cameron) facing serious sentence for dealing hard drugs? Somehow I don’t think any amount of money can ease the pain of that.  Time to look in the mirror for Michael  – and time for the astrologer to look at the charts. Michael Douglas 25 September 1944, 10.30 am. New Brunswick, NJ (AA rating, source Lois Rodden).  One planet immediately springs out of this chart, which is why this article will focus on this rebel rouser. I am talking of course, about transit Pluto.

Pluto has the potential to turn lives upside down if..and only IF.. responsibility has been avoided, and conscious awareness and attention have not been given over a considerable length of time, to areas of life that clearly are not functioning properly.  Pluto is drawn like a magnet, to anything that is tucked away, repressed or ignored. Under a Pluto transit, the energy that has been trapped in suppression, rises up with equal force and can turn lives up side down. It’s the nature of the beast….and we actually do it all ourselves. Blindness..there is nothing Pluto loves more than blindness. 

Michael Douglas has the Moon in Capricorn, an earth sign, which gives a tendency to bury distressing emotional content. If it’s painful, dig a hole for it. But what if there are too many holes? Then the emotional life becomes lacking in transparancy and like a mine field, dangerous to pass through. An attitude of – best leave well alone – develops.  And then… Pluto… strides accross it, and sets the whole thing off.  Now this, is seriously scarey stuff.  The transit of Pluto accross Michael Douglas’ Moon will lead him to question the entire basis upon which he has built his emotional life. Succes is worthless if unable to save your son.

Another reason why transit Pluto is making mince meat of this chart, is because it is simultaneously squaring the Sun. In view of Michael Douglas’ age, he will be 65 this year, this  is a sink or swim, shall we say life or death test. The Sun rules the heart and we are talking stress and sadness, so there are possible health issues.  With Scorpio rising in the chart and Sun conjunct Neptune, the choice might be between letting go, i.e. immersion in creative work (Neptune) or a period of serious self examination into the role -or lack of it – in his son’s life.  Scorpio gives the ability to soul search and the desire (Mars) to focus on the crap and then to rise above it.  I came accross an interesting article on-line, with a comment by the babysitter of Cameron Douglas.  Some useful insights here into Cameron’s emotional neglect as a child. A last comment on the Sun/Neptune contact.  Neptune has a relationship with drug use and this is not the first time Michael Douglas’ life has been affected by substance abuse. His half brother, Eric, died from a drugs overdose, while Michael himself has been treated for alcholism.

Which ever way you look at it, Pluto is going to be triggering this chart for quite some years to come. There is no easy way out of this one. The ferryman (Pluto) demands to be paid.
