Barack Obama, Pluto and the Changing Face of Global Co-operation

Well..global issues are on the agenda this week aren’t they? And what a planetary line-up, the ongoing Jupiter, Chiron, Neptune conjunction lends itself to discussions that transcend the boundaries of race, colour, creed and country. The last time these three planets met was in September 1945 – and we all know what happened then. Yes..World War II was finally over.  An event that sent a wave of joy around the world. So once again, here we stand at the beginning of a new phase of global relations. The time for new allegiances has come.  Barak Obama is not afraid to bite the bullet. This week he has a busy agenda, with no less than four top meetings  including a key-note speech at the climate summit in New York, a special meeting of the security council on nuclear proliferation, and later this week he will open the G20 summit.

In recent weeks, Barak Obama has been accused – in Dutch newspapers anyways – of being too soft. Too soft!! Softness in the political arena equates with weakness and a weak leader is bad news. So is Barak Obama weak? On the day of the Sun’s ingress into Libra, Barak Obama addressed the United Nations for the first time. This is highly significant. Though any fool can see that Barak Obama’s up against it. Pluto for the first time since it entered Capricorn squares the Sun at the Libra ingress. This time last year Pluto was lurking about in Sagittarius – tweaking the galactic centre as only Pluto can. What fun that turned out to be. Lehman Brother’s collapsed…and the rest is history.

Libra is the sign of the born diplomat. If there is a smidgeon of agreement to be squeezed out of the bitterest lemon – Libra will get the juice.  Barak Obama is not weak – he’s just plain clever. He is on track. America is coming up for its Saturn return. So, it needs to reassert itself, reassess it’s leadership possibilities, turn the page. I am convinced that Barak Obama will get a health bill through Congress, that he will also pursue diplomacy and engagement with great patience. AS promised. That he will show the world that there is a difference between Pluto in Capricorn – and PLUTO IN CAPRICORN. What do I mean? Well…. In its most positive manifestation, Pluto in Capricorn is not power hungry…it simply wants influence. While the position of the US as the world’s only super-power might be waning (Pluto negative) – it has a tremendous opportunity to wield influence (Pluto positive). The latter is what Barak Obama is showing the world at the moment.

The power of positve engagement…. Sun in Libra – square Pluto in Capricorn.  While this combination offers anything but simple remedies (for in truth the issues that confront us are truly great) it does offer the possibility for a deep and engaging dialogue about these issues. At this juncture in our planet’s history, this is no mean feat.
