The Dutch newspaper “NRC Next” has given quite some attention to President Obama’s State of the Union address – seeing it as yet another historical moment, in Obama’s long list of firsts…Reflecting on his first year in office and looking ahead, the paper concluded that Obama must -take off the silk gloves and start to fight his corner. Stop being Mr. Nice Guy – and start being Mr. Mean – I think was the message. After all, there are some major issues on the table (Health Care, Banking restrictions, the planned freeze on Government spending from 2011) and if our man is to forge ahead with the agenda of change which elected him, fight he will have to. Reason enough to take a look at Obama’s birth chart.
Certainly some change in the President’s approach seems likely. The progressed Sun has been in Virgo for the last 30 years or so, which is where the pragmatic, thinking, side of Obama’s character was likely forged. AT the end of August 2010, the progressed Sun is about to change sign, and enter Libra. This in itself is interesting in view of the cardinal climax around this time, with many planets hovering around the early degrees of the cardinals. Jupiter conjunct Uranus in June, Pluto already in early degrees of Capricorn, and Saturn ready to definitely enter Libra. So as ever, Obama remains very much in tune with the times. Do you rember the “perfect” symmetry between George Bush’s chart and the US? If you don’t, check it out. Symetries are fascinating …. but that’s another article.
So, can a man with Sun moving into harmony seeking, diplomatic, rational Libra – roll his sleeves up and pack a punch? The prominence is certainly there – Obama’s progressed Sun will soon be conjunct with the US Midheaven. The US on a soul level is open to Libra forms of discussion, debate and well balanced decision making. However, Mars rules the IC (in a nation’s chart, the house of the opposition) and Mars is in the intellectually curious Gemini. Ideas are dominant and the opposition will always have more than a few simple tricks up their sleeves. Gemini’s can be tricksy. Ideologies are important. Win the minds of the people….
The astrology is just as fascinating as the politics. So the question remains, will Obama be willing or able to deal out the right sort of blows? Well… let me just put it this way. I take some consolation from the fact that “Good ole Maggie Thatcher” was a Libran!! It is clearly a mistake to underestimate the power of a cardinal sign.
