My first attempt to see Avatar ended in disaster: it was sold out. So this time I did the right thing and booked online. Despite the cliche’s in the story itself, the technology has clearly come a long way since “Creature of the Black Lagoon” !! The premier of Avatar was in London, on December 10th 2009 – the time I am using is 20.00. The horoscope of Avatar.
Avatar is set on Pandora – a planet in Alpha Centauri star system. Pandora is rich in resources which a military backed corporation want to further exploit. The planet’s inhabitants the Na’vi – actually reminded me of native Americans – and the Na’vi’s connection to nature and their love of the forest – is no different from that of indigineous people on our own planet – who have to fight to try to preserve their traditional way of life. Central -as in most block busters – is the devloping love relationship between Jake Sully and Neytiri, a Na’vi girl. At the end of the movie our paraplegic hero -Jake Sully- choses to stay in the forest with the Na’vi. Was there a hint of nostalgia here for what we in the West have lost: our contact with nature? Nature for most of us – is synonymous with a day out, or a couple of weeks holiday. We go and visit IT – most of us don’t live in nature anymore. While the victory of the indigenous people over the military power of the corporation – seemed to me like just a good old dose of wishful thinking.
Now the astrology. The Sun (our hero) falls by antisicion on Venus, which while suggesting a major love interest, also suggests that the relationship comes to fruition in a round about way. The contact suggests something hidden, the relationship is not as clear cut as it would have been if there had been a direct aspect between the two. The centaur – symbol of Sagittarius – is half man, half horse. Half human – half animal. Sagittarius is also a double sign – suggesting duality – or a double character. Sagittarius also hints at moral responsiblity, issues of right and wrong, and touches on our sense of fairplay. Indeed -why should the big corporations always win? The Saturn/Pluto square – really kicked in during the big fight at the end – where the army and the natives go head to head. Great visuals here. Unbelievable actually!!
What I really loved about the film though, was the forest and its plants and animals. The colours and depth of the imagery – my Capricorn soul soared. Clearly the film has a strong Libran influence – Saturn and the Moon being in the sign. The technical brilliance though has everything to do with the conjunction between Neptune and Jupiter in Aquarius. Neptune is closely related to developments in film and Jupiter here suggests a break through, new borders are being defined, film is moving on to a new stage. The next step might well be – 3d television.
Interestingly the only water in the chart is Uranus and the only time water figured strongly – was when our hero – plunged from a cliff face into a river. THe forest is for me quite a Capricornian place – and the holy tree – we could give to Mercury/Pluto. Pluto pointing to its deep mystical and religious role – while Mercury suggests a practical application of this energy, towards healing.
All in all, I’m glad I got to see Avatar at the movies. This is clearly a film for the big screen – Sun in Sag. sextile Jupiter/Neptune and not for home video!!
