Gordon Brown/ David Cameron – the peculiar Saturn/Uranus election

Britain is gearing up for a General Election. Though a date has not been set – it has to take place before June 3. At the time of the election Saturn will be opposing Uranus (yet again) accross the mutable Virgo (Saturn) Pisces (Uranus) axis.. The candidates – predictably – reflect this oppositon, on the one side we have old stalwart Gordon Brown (59) on the other, the relative green shoot  David Cameron (44).  For those of you who know nothing at all about British politics, Cameron (Uranus?) is a conservative, Brown (Saturn?) labour. We can pick up the Saturn/Uranus theme in the respective horoscopes. This is a bi-wheel, with Gordon Brown on inner wheel, David Cameron on the outer. Here we can see that the ruler of Gordon Brown’s ascendant Mars, is conjunct with David Cameron’s Saturn. David Cameron is also born under the conjunction of Uranus/Pluto in Virgo in opposition with Saturn in Pisces. Meanwhile Gordon Brown is born under a Saturn (Libra) Uranus (Cancer) square.

Political commentators are already clear about one thing, this is going to be a tough battle. Both men are bound to the Saturn,Uranus cycle and are therefore tuned into the current Saturn/Uranus opposition – and if oppositions teach is one thing – then its about head to head – even though the planets in essence, both share the same axis and therefore have much in common. Earth and water as elements can – in principle at least -work well together. Let’s talk Pisces for a moment. Both Brown and Cameron have recently played the victim card. In February we had Gordon Brown’s (at times tearful) interview with Piers Morgan during which he talked about the personal tragedy of losing a baby, this was quickly followed by David Cameron’s  interview in which he talked about his pain at the loss of his son. Everyone knows that the British are suckers for a sob story, but honestly, politics have sunk pretty low when this sort of emotional milking becomes necessary to win votes. One wonders how much sympath the parents of young British soldieres – flying home on a weekly basis – could muster for these two men.  Then we have the Virgo axis – the idea of the servant – and that is what politicians in essence are – public servants.  Virgo is also about discernment and critical assessment of ideas and decisions, and clearly both men made well informed decisions on their interviews. Both men felt they could gain public merit by showing a human face to the plebs. But is this what we want or need from our public servants? Is this sort of behaviour acceptable?

Meanwhile back at the ranch, Gordon Brown’s Saturn squats on David Cameron’s ascendant – while David Cameron’s Saturn – straddles Gordon Brown’s 12th house Venus/Mars conjunction.  These are uncomfortable contacts – neither man feels at ease with the other ( see picture above). However, this will make the planned live tv debates compulsive viewing. Such strong Saturn contacts – do not promote spontaneity – they do promote build up of tension as each tries to rid himself of Saturn’s restrictions, and attempts to dominate the debate.

Though most political commentators had previously written Gordon Brown off – his Pluto tranist to the MC – seems to represent a pretty remarkable make-over.  These days, a more comfortable looking prime minister, is presenting himself as the elder statesmen. His decision to speak to the Irak tribunal before the general election – was a gamble that looks like its paid off. Jupiter now in his sign Pisces – makes risk taking worth while. Meanwhile SAturn – ruler of David Cameron midheaven has recently entered his Sun sign, Libra. An election victory seemed tantalizingly close – however Saturn is now retrograde and is moving away from Libra – and will be back in Virgo when the election is held. Maggie Thatcher first came to power when Saturn was in early Virgo – (elections May 3 1979)* . The Conservatives then held onto power from 1979 until May 1st 1997 ( we remember it well!!) – when Tony Blair’s New Labour took over the helm. So does the astrology suggest a conservative win? Let us be clear on this point, history does not repeat itself – at best we can recognise a familiar tune. My opnion on the astrology of the election – will of course be given on astrologie.blogo – however bear in mind, I’m Welsh and a miner’s grand-daugher :-). The next article in this series will look at the horoscope of the UK.
