Horoscope James Lovelock: the earth is beyond saving?

James Lovelock is the scientist behind the “gaia theory”. While doing research for NASA on Mars in the 1960’s he “formed the hypothesis that  “living and non-living parts of the earth form a complex interacting system that can be thought of as a single organism.”  (wikipedia) In 1979 Lovelock published: Gaia: A New Look at Life on Earth, which while being criticised by other scientists for its quasi spiritual overtones, was widely read. Lovelock is one of the creators of our current environmental consciousness. Now James Lovelock has come up with a new theory,  namely that earth is beyond saving. James Lovelock was born on July 26th 1919, unfortunately I have been unable to find a time, so this is a noon horoscope. Lovelock was born in Letchworth, England. Why is James Lovelock making this statement now?

Regardless of the time of birth, James Lovelock has the Moon in Cancer, together with Jupiter, which is exalted in this sign. By antiscion the nodes of the moon fall on Jupiter which suggests that his work will have an impact on the world. The nodes relate a person to the group, and are connected to important meetings. Perhaps also there is something hidden (antiscia) in the destiny of this man. Things happen “by chance” that prove to be vital to the way envisages the big picture (Jupiter). With Jupiter ruled by the Moon here in its own sign – Lovelock follows his feelings – while his Leo Sun, suggests that he is prepared to break new ground. He is his own man and a somewhat complex character. Having  thought up the “gaia” theory one would imagine that – in his politics – Lovelock would be “green”. However his support for nuclear power plants put a cog in that wheel. He was also a huge fan of Maggie Thatcher. Most of the planets in the chart fall within an orb of 70 degrees – with the exception of Uranus. Uranus stands out here, is a loner we could say, and at school Lovelock was nicknamed “the mad scientist”!! There are three important conjunctions, Sun conjunct Neptune, the visionary, the ability to imagine things and to birth them in the world. Leo is a creative sign. Mercury conjunct Saturn, seriousness, the will to focus on one point. Saturn is also conjunct the fixed star Regulus – discipline brings high rewards. Lovelock is a self-made man, of humble origins. Mars conjunct Pluto – the sense of digging, an energetic search for the core of truth, bravery.

So, why is this  statement “the earth is beyond saving”  being made now? Interestingly, the progressed Sun in the horoscope of James Lovelock has recently changed sign. It is has just entered Scorpio, a negative, feminine sign, related to death and rebirth. Lovelock is a very old man – so how far has the reality of his own situation influenced his current assessment of the planet’s potential? Interesting thought. The good news is however, that James Lovelock does have some good advice for us. He asks us ot enjoy life while we are able to enjoy it. The inborn wisdom of life loving Jupiter in Cancer rings true!!
