This morning at 07.00 BST (British Summer Time) the poling booths opened in the UK and by tomorrow morning the British public should know what the new political landscape looks like. But will they?? The Labour Party has just completed a historic three terms in office. However the elections held over the last 100 years show a clear pattern: after 3 terms in Government, the British public is ready to pass the gauntlet to the other side. It is also clear that Gordon Brown is not a gifted enough politician to reverse this collective trend. The British public are bored with Labour and astrologers should not only look at the astrology, but look at the past history as well. There is also much talk amongst astrologers about the role of Mercury retrograde – however – history shows that Mercury retrograde smiles on the Labour Party. In the 2001 election, when Tony Blair first came to office, Mercury was retrograde. This is the horoscope for the start of the 2001 election when New Labour first came to power. Blair was a Taurean – and here we see Venus in her own sign Taurus, receiving a trine from the Moon in Capricorn. In a mundane chart the Moon represents the people, and here they favour the debonair, good looking, smooth talking Blair.
So to put the record straight, Mercury retrograde does not automatically produce major electoral problems or lead directly to a hung Parliament. So what are we to make of today’s result? The horoscope for the 2010 UK election:
The Moon in Aquarius suggests to me that a higher than normal percentage of people will actually turn out today to vote. This is good news for the democratic process. Particulary the expenses scandal last year – has led to huge anger amongst the working Brits – and you can’t complain about your Government if you don’t make use of your power to create change. However, the Moon is VOC – which means its void of course – not about to make any major aspect to the classical planets. People want to vote – but for who?? There is an indecisiveness about a VOC Moon – the Moon is also peregrine – so it doesn’t really have a home. Many voters nowadays switch from party to party without any fixed allegiance. I just had a friend over from London – he doesn’t like Brown – won’t vote Conservative on principle – so is opting for Clegg as a protest vote. So for me the interesting battle, is between Jupiter conjunct Uranus – opposite Saturn. Here we have the three contenders, Brown, Clegg and Cameron. This is clearly an exciting three horse race, and the astrology shows this. Pisces – where Uranus and Jupiter stand – has a liberal social feel about it – so this could be Brown and Clegg. The conservatives on the other hand are more Saturnian – they want to start cutting back the UK deficit immediately – but won’t be clear about where the big cuts in social spending will be made. This is typical of Saturn retrograde – and don’t forget Saturn still has to square Pluto next year. Ouch. This is indicative of harsh realities – and back to basics – all very typical Conservative stuff. So the Moon in Aquarius (the voters) is ruled by Saturn – David Cameron. By the way, in case your not happy with Cameron playing the role of Saturn, just remember that Saturn has just moved over his ascendant back into his 12th house. This brought unexpected troubles – in the form of Nick Clegg – whose popularity rocketed after the first live tv leaders debate. The horoscope of David Cameron – does mirror the UK chart – and this sort of synastry is an absolute necessity if you are to come to high public office. The UK also has a Libra ascendant – and Cancer on the Midheaven.
It’s a hard thing to come up with the winner of an election – and there are some complicated planetary pictures. In June – Jupiter and Uranus will conjunct each other on David Cameron’s seventh house cusp. My gut feeling is that David Cameron will win – but that he will have to form allegiances in order to have a sufficient majority to rule.
It’s going to be a late night tonight. The BBC election special will start at 22.00 LMT. CNN are also doing live coverage. Here’s hoping for a miracle….. vote labour !!
