Horoscope Julian Paul Assange, a voice crying in the wilderness?

Julian Paul Assange has become a household name. Assange is the founder of Wiki-leaks, a site where leaked official documents are published. Though we do not have an exact date for the launch of Wikileaks, we do know it was launched sometime in December 2006, when Pluto was at the end of truth loving Sagittarius and conjunct the galactic centre. Perhaps its not such a shock that the site has created such waves. Julian Assange’s birth time is not known, however we do have a birthdate, July 3 1971, Townsville, Australia. The horoscope is set for 12.00, so we should be cautious with the Moon and the Ascendant.

Julian Paul Assange is born under the water sign Cancer, and the fact that he is born a day before the US (July 4th) , is interesting in itself, since of late it the US that seems to be Wikileaks’ primary target. Cancer is a a sensitive sign, largely governed by instinct and feelings. They have a protective shell, which is also a bit like a mobile home, which they carry around with them. Cancers must periodically seek refuge within themselves. It is as though Cancer needs at times to return to its own inner source in order to be re-envigorated, and to find  inspiration. Cancerians generally tend to be home loving, however we could imagine that with Uranus closely squaring Assange’s Sun, a deep inner need for a secure home base, has not always been met. Uranus is disruptive, and for an emotional sign like Cancer, disruption of ties can leave deep emotional scars. What we do know about Assange childhood, is that he moved around an awful lot , and that for a time, he and his mother were on the ‘run’ from his stepfather. Apart from the disruptive element of all this, on some other level, it must also have been incredibly exciting. Uranus thrives on danger and excitement, loves to live on the edge and when Uranus is square the Sun, it denotes someone who is challenged to embody this sort of energy within the self.  Cancer is also a sign that fiercely protects the individual, because it is very much about “me”, my feelings, my moods, my family, my wants and my desires. In this respect it rightfully stands in opposition to the earth sign Capricorn which is very much concerned with the system, structure, law and the rules that society obliges the individual to obey. It is therefore not a huge surprise that Julian Assange defines the human struggle ‘not as left versus right, or faith versus reason, but as individual versus institution’. For Assange creativity, love and compassion are corrupted by institutional hierarchies.

I see a hint of the messianic in Assange’s horoscope. This is a man on a mission, whose voice is as one ‘crying in the wilderness’. Saturn is in Gemini, which in itself points to literally ‘masses of information and data’ and it is in opposition to Neptune, which does tend to confuse issues somewhat. I ask myself – apart from government officials, newspaper editors (whose readers then get to read a selected version), and those people with a vested interest, how many of the ‘individuals’ Assange seeks to protect and enlighten, will actually take the time to sift through all this stuff? While Saturn/Neptune undoubtedly produces idealistic individuals, who are even prepared to lay down their lives for a cause, the question begs to be asked, what concrete (Saturnian) results can Saturn achive when pitted against Neptune, whose primary aim is to undermine? Already the US is taking measures to prevent such leaks in the future, which include a new law to protect bell ringers. This new law will make it easier for people to pass on information to the authorities. This is how the system seems to work:  take dissonant voices from outside the system and place them within it. Problem solved.

I see a real danger for Assange, the man in all of this. The establishmen net – Saturn – is closing around Assange. Make no mistake, Saturn has power, and those who pit themselves against the system, can expect no mercy (Neptune). Sweden has just recently asked for Assange’s name to be added to Interpol’s most wanted list. Assange has been accused of rape in Sweden, a charge which he vehemently denies. I am sure if he is caught, the Americans would love to have a chat with him as well!!! With Pluto moving into square with Assange’s Uranus, and into an opposition with his Sun, a cardinal t-square will form over the next couple of years, suggesting that the pressure on the man will increase tenfold. Add to this the global picture, and we see that next year sees the start of the square between Uranus in Aries with Pluto in Capricorn. The establishment’s battle with what its sees as cyber crime is set to intensify. I personally will be very surprised if Julian Assange remains a free man after 2012.

Returning now to Assange’s Sun, which is conjunct with the US Sun. If there’s one thing the US loves, then its a good villian. Jupiter the ruler of its ascendant, is in the seventh house, which explains why some of them tend to take on mythic (Jupiter) larger than life proportions, think of Billy the Kid, Al Capone, Geronimo. Julian Assange’s Sun, is in the US seventh house, making him- in his own way – as big a villian as that other infamous fugitive Osama Bin Laden.
