Horoscope: World Cup Goes to Russia

The waiting is over, the 2018 World Cup will be held in Russia. England – who thought they had put in a strong bid – ended up with only two votes. Last night on BBC question time, one of the issues debated was  “Did the BBC Panorma program exposing the corruption under some top Fifa officials  influence this decision?” . The program was sent out Monday evening, just a few days before the final vote. There are two horoscopes we need to take into consideration. The first is the horoscope for Fifa itself, the second is for the time the decision was made – 2 December 2010, 16.37  LT, Zurich. Fifa was established on May 21 1904 in Paris France and this is the data I am using for the Fifa horoscope.

Leaving sport to one side, it is clear that with Venus in Taurus, money and wealth play an important role in the Fifa organization. We must assume that Fifa was formed during the daytime, which makes Venus visible above the horizon, making her the strongest planet in this horoscope. Wealth and luxury are more important perhaps than they should be in an organization whose primary aim is to promote a sport. However Venus is also about passion, and football more than any other sport, certainly inspires passion. In the Fifa horoscope, Venus is conjunct Mercury. Mercury is the god of traders, but also God of thieves and tricksters. Who does Mercury serve here ? Well, he’s in Taurus – so he serves Venus. However, Saturn is also strongly placed in its own sign Aquarius. This suggests good organizing ability and structure. Saturn squares Venus and both are in fixed signs. This could result in rigid attitudes with regard to aquired status and position, fixed signs show a greater reluctance to change than the other signs. This aspect also points to heavy criticism of the way in which financial transactions take place.  Saturn’s square to Venus suggests an organization that has well established methods, but one that is not adverse to lining the pockets of those who serve within it. For real corruption however, we often find that Neptune is a key player. In the Fifa horoscope Neptune is semi-square to Venus, and in sesquiquadrate to Saturn. These are minor aspects, but when the orbs are small, and they are in this chart, we can be sure that Neptune has a special role to play. The temptation (Neptune semi-square Venus) to abuse ones position (Saturn) is present.

The second horoscope is for the announcement of the winning bid for the World Cup,  Zurich, 2 Decmber 2010, 16.37.

In this horoscope the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction – which was a strong feature of this year’s successful World Cup in South Africa – is in the 11th house, the house of associations and friendship. The Jupiter and Uranus conjunction has a mighty big feel to it, and Jupiter rules the 7th (allegiances) and the 11th. In view of Fifa’s Venus, Saturn square, the idea of cracking open the huge potential Russian market for football, must have been, quite frankly, too hard to resist. Though the 11th is opposite the fifth, which is the mundane house under which sport falls. Mars is also a planet linked to sport, because of the sheer physical power of it all, and in this horoscope Mars squares the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction, which perhaps is a good measuring stick of the controversy surrounding the proceedings.

So, did the BBC Panorama program foil England’s bid? Personally, I don’t think it did. The UK horoscope has Mercury (publishing, reporting, etc) at 17 degrees 33 minutes Sagittarius. If we look at the announcement chart, we can see that UK Mercury is almost exactly on the mid-point of the announcement chart’s Sun and Mars. So, though it must have been annoying, this link is not strong enough to suggest it caused Englad to loose. For the reason for that, we only need look at the Jupiter,Uranus conjunction. This combination of planets is about expansion.  Russia’s bid was focussed on the idea of bringing football to an enormous new frontier, to a new continent with vast money making potential. I think Sepp Blatter said it all really just before he announced Russia the winner: “We go to new lands.”  Jupiter/Uranus… there you have it.
