Nuclear Power: the Horoscope for Plutonium

With Japan’s nuclear crisis worsening and the threat of a serious nuclear fall-out growing, nations around the world are rethinking their nuclear energy programs. In Germany Angela Merkel has imposed a moratorium on nuclear energy, France looks set to hold a referendum on it and one demonstration against a proposed nuclear power plant in the Netherlands was held last weekend. Science is fallible – shit happens – and when it happens inside a nuclear reactor the consequences are so immense it is  hard for us to comprehend.

The planet Pluto is linked to the splitting of the atom and to the development of nuclear power. The signature of the whole nuclear energy industry is tied in with Pluto’s discovery horoscope.

Looking at this chart – then we see that the Moon is in Scorpio – suggesting that mankind will have to face dark and possibly painful aspects of its own nature. Certainly with the development of plutonium and the dropping of the ‘little boy’ on Hiroshima, humanity lost its innocence. Our ability to kill – on mass and from on high  – saddled us with shameful knowledge about ourselves as human beings.  A return to Eden never seemed further away. In his excellent article – published in ORPHEUS, Voices in Contemporary Astrology, astrologer Brian Taylor presents a horoscope for the discovery of Plutonium (researched by Nick Kollerstrom) , 14 December 1940, 20.00 PST, Berkeley, California. Unbelievably the ascendant in this horoscope (4 deg. 35 Leo) is almost exactly the same as the horoscope for discovery Pluto (3 degrees 29 Leo).

The Sun in Pisces on March 12th 2011, which is when the first explosion took place at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, was squaring the Sun in Sagittarius in the discovery of Plutonium horoscope. Pisces and Sagittarius are Jupiter ruled – and Jupiter is currently in firey Aries. This feels like an almighty collision of atomic power – and is suggestive of the immense burning heat inside the core of these reactors. The midheaven in the horoscope for the Fukushima explosion 22 Taurus 26 (March 12 2011, 3.40 pm, Fukushima) – is almost exactly conjunct Uranus in the Plutonium discovery horoscope. The midheaven is where potential becomes externalized and where it can gain recognition in the outside world. Uranus suggests speed, accidents and danger. However attractive nuclear energy might appear – it is not good for us, for humans and for human life.

It is to be hoped that at least some good will come out of what is unfolding in Japan. For that reason I personally welcome the review of nuclear power that is now taking place.
