Horoscope: Rupert Murdoch and the powers that be

The speed with which the phone hacking scandal in the UK has evolved during the last week is quite staggering – particularly when you remember this whole affair started in the summer of 2006. It is becoming increasingly clear that politicians, police and business people alike, were intimidated by Rupert Murdoch’s power  to make or break their personal lives and careers. Rupert Murdoch – actually reminds me of Charles Foster Cane – the media tycoon in the film Citizen Cane.  Rupert Murdoch too it seems is prepared to sell his soul to the devil – in return for financial success. The horoscope of Rupert Murdoch – 11 March 1931, 23.59 Melbourne, Australia

This horoscope makes me think that for Rupert Murdoch, “the end justifies the means.” Capricorn rising – Saturn in its own sign in the first house. Saturn opposes Pluto – which gives either an almost obsessive desire to exercise power – or suggests the person will at some time in his/her life be karmically destined to  experience raw power in some shape or form first hand. There are undercurrents at work here that can pull a person into deep water.  So much depends in horoscopes where hard Saturn/Pluto aspects are present on the good intention of the person concerned. There seems to be a karmic carry over of some kind linked to mis-use of power. Awareness of old patterns and a true soul desire to act to the highest good can change the dynamic. Saturn rules the third house of publishing. Mars in fall in Cancer – opposes Saturn in its own sign. Again this is a difficult aspect. Potential weakness being covered up by hard business dealings. It is not unusual for Murdoch for example – to fire a whole workforce – just like he has down now. He didn’t flinch in 1986 at quite literally smuggling automated printers into the UK and firing 5000 Fleet Street print workers.

Mercury rules the midheaven – the profession. Mercury rules publishing. By antiscion, Mercury falls on the North Node and Uranus. Shocking news it what Rupert Murdoch sells. Keep it salacious, keep it juicy. Shocking too – the tactics employed to get a story. A strong mutual reception between the Moon in Sagittarius and Jupiter in Cancer – reminds me of the old adage “keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer”. Moon is in 12th  – house of secrets and self undoing – Jupiter is in 7 – in the house of partnerships and of open enemies. Relationships as a means to satisfy one’s secret agenda and goals. When those relationships no longer work – an ability to cut ties. Add to this, the Sun in Pisces which can be ambiguous, charming but oh so capable of quickly changing course. Pisces is a flexible, opportunistic sign and in this chart the Pisces Sun is linked to both Saturn and Pluto. Though the aspects are harmonious – this could also be interpreted as ‘giving in to’ the power drive. Pisces goes with the flow, and will follow the path of least resistance.

Rupert Murdoch might like to imagine that his problems are solved now he has decided to sell the News of the World – personally I think he is wrong. When Rupert Murdoch’s newspaper the SUN, published lies about the role of Liverpool football supporters following the Hillsborough football disaster, the people of Liverpool never forgave the newspaper they call the SCUM. I think the British people as a whole will find it very difficult to forgive Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch was never respectable – but now he is really bad news.

The transits at the moment are also quite difficult – for someone whose dealings are clearly shady. Pluto is poised to oppose radix Jupiter – while Saturn – good old Saturn – ascendant ruler – is transitting through the 10th. Saturn transits through 10 are known to be linked to a fall from power. The classical example of this being President Richard Nixon – himself a Capricorn. It is often said what goes round, comes round. I sense that Rupert Murdoch will fall far from grace. The million dollar question for me, is who will he take down with him?

The second part of this article will look at Rupert Murdoch’s powerful synastry with the UK horoscope.
