Astrological Insights: Mercury Retrograde, deciding what we really, REALLY, want

Astrological Insight : Looking at the chart wheel for this Monday morning – my eye immediately fell on the besieged Moon. A planet is besieged when it finds itself sandwiched between the two so called malefics, Mars and Saturn. My once teacher John Frawley said it was like being stuck between a rock and a hard place: not a comfortable place to be. Of old, the Moon in mundane astrology has related to the people. My son’s announcement (he has the ascendant in 8 Sag) that he was driving to a theme park on the border with Germany with an 18 year old friend who just passed his driving license – left me with an uncomfortable feeling. It’s a grim weather day here in Holland. The words ‘drive carefully’ resonated with me as they left. The Moon translates Mars to Saturn – and all are in Sagittarius – so travel is highlighted. Time and time again, astrology challenges me to have faith and to trust in life. I like that. Whether the Moon is besieged or not I remain defiant. I set about darning a hole in a beloved grey wollen sweater – hence the late posting. The needle stabbing its way and crisscrossing the void filled me with satisfaction. And so the week begins..Eureka. I see Jupiter squares the Moon and prohibits its contact with Saturn: my son will most likely be home late, tired and hungry.

Astrological Insight : On Tuesday the Moon in Sagittarius trines Uranus and Venus in Aries. Reflecting on last week’s insight: I received quite a few emails and personal messages and also spoke with two clients specifically about complicated relationships. I think I hit the right note. The message here is clear: the darkest hour is always before the dawn. Moon moves out of the Mars/Saturn shadowlands and into harmony with Uranus (whereby paving the way for more autonomy) and Venus (encouraging loving independence). Venus enters her domicile Taurus on Saturday – the Sun is already in this peace loving sign: relationships in a broad sense (this includes the relationship with yourself) can now take a turn for the better. Taurus hates perceived threats to security and always feels most content when it knows where it stands. Taurus can withstand almost anything. The cosmic cards have been shuffled and on some levels at least – there is some clarity now – and Taurus can live with that.

Astrological Insight : Mercury who has been shuffling along in Taurus – grinds to a halt on Thursday. Enough is enough. Next week’s New Moon on May 6th looks very interesting. It’s almost as though wheeler and dealer Mercury is afraid to miss a trick. Sun, Moon, Venus…? Party would be incomplete without Mercury. Great conjunction – picking up on the grand earth trine – from two weeks ago, when I wrote: ….Mercury will trine Jupiter – and on Sunday – Mercury will trine Pluto. Mercury is acting here very much as a go-between, facilitating between the two super powers, Jupiter and Pluto. What we have is a grand ‘earth’ trine. Remember, Jupiter is in Virgo and Pluto is in Capricorn. I love earth trines – and grand earth trines – well… just how good can it get? I am a Capricorn I might add… so clearly biased. Earth is a pragmatic, sensible, constructive, practical element. In business talks, while Aries might be all fire in the belly, earth will say, ‘ok…. but what can we really do for each other?’, ‘how are we going to finance that?’ Earth is interested in the practical side of things and before setting out on any journey will want to know what constructive steps need to be taken to get from ‘a’ to ‘b’. Great energy this for cutting through and grounding.’

Mercury is preparing to re-visit this earthy trine. Plans enter a second phase now and so become more concrete. This is particularly useful for our basic life structure, finance, determining literally where you stand on things. GROUNDING…Though this energy is excellent for  business too. Re-establishing. Building things up again. Mercury in Taurus reminds me of the fable of the hare and the tortoise. Taurus’ persistence and dogged determinism will win through in the end. Those things we really, really, want – can be obtained. That’s the message and hence the challenge here I think. It’s important to be patient and to take the time you need to establish what you really want.

The grand earth trine energy serves to balance out the mutable cross which leaves things up in the air. 15th May is also very powerful – with Moon conjunct Jupiter – entering into the grand earth trine. The grand earth trine basic (Mercury/Jupiter/Pluto) carries on through the whole month of May – and takes us right up to the retrograde Scorpio ingress of Mars on May 27th. Personally, having finished my Masters … I am focused on the simple things of life… It’s a joy to read a newspaper cover to cover. Though I am playing around with a few ideas I remain very noncommittal and very mutable t-square. Am curious what shifts to the inner landscape the grand earth trine will bring?
