Astro-insight: Mars in Sagittarius – a question of right balance

Astro-insight: Mars in Sagittarius is about boundless energy, however, with Mars in detriment in Jupiter’s current sign Libra – we are reminded how difficult it is to find balance where Mars in Sag is concerned. I kind of felt sorry for Hilary Clinton yesterday. The very idea of campaign trail I find very Jupiterian – and the constant hammering of the body just to get your message out there – must be unbelievably tough. This week, Mars becomes a focal planet in a complex t-square: Sun opposite Chiron, square Mars and showing respect for mind and body is one of the main themes of the week.

Sun/Chiron represents a face off between the thoughtful mind – and the knowing body. Mars has to bridge this energy and channel it into right action. Friday’s lunar eclipse in 24 Pisces 20, serves to raise the stakes. I think it is about morality and ethical conduct. The idea of ‘doing the right thing’. With Mercury retrograde in Virgo and conjunct with the Sun on Tuesday, we are also being required to be mindful of what we say and perhaps again with Chiron in the picture, to purify our thoughts. Chiron always reminds me of children. Children are vulnerable and society does not afford them a voice of their own – yet they are full of wisdom and very close to their essential self. Chiron in Pisces reminds us that it’s okay to remove the adult armour sometimes, to let the guard down and basically to show a more sensitve, vulnerable side. It also feels good to be spontaneous and Pisces is so sensitive to the invisible world. Virgo on the other hand, is pragmatic and ‘seeing is believing’ 🙂 Perhaps speaking our truth will present us with an opportunity to confront some misconceptions?

One way to view the Sun/Mercury conjunction is as a burning up. Mercury has been combust for some days now – but on Tuesday it moves into cazimi – that is – Mercury moves into the heart of the Sun. So thinking symbolically, negative thoughts can be ‘burned up’ now. Good time to rid yourself of ‘dross’, good time to think positive and anchor those thoughts.

Sun square Mars on Tuesday challenges the mind to move forward. it is a push to remove obstacles, to clear the deck. However, it is also a reminder that more haste can mean less speed. The issue of right balance again!!! Sun/Mars can lead to hasty action or because we are too hasty and unwilling to read the instructions properly, send us running in completely the wrong direction. Take your time, be diligent at the beginning of the week – and be open to inspiration when Mars trines Uranus on Saturday.

Final note of the week must go to Venus in enchanting Libra. On Sunday, Venus opposes Uranus in Aries. A fiery encounter and sparks might fly. This could lead to a dangerous liaison or to a sudden bust up. Opposites attract and with Venus sextiling -the thrill of the chase -Mars next week on Monday (19 sept) sudden new developments might make existing relationships seem a little stale. One of the important themes of Venus/Uranus centers on the freedom to be yourself in relationships. With the Moon (feelings) eclipsed this week, the theme of sacrifice -Chiron/Pisces – might also play a significant role.
