Spring Equinox News: 2020

As announced yesterday, I am updating astrologieblog with articles I have written on my English Language website: This one was first posted on April 11th, 2020.

Equinox News…

I was interested to compare the 2008 Aries ingress, with Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn, with the 2020 Aries ingress. The 2008 chart has Sun square Mars in fall in Cancer and square Pluto in early Capricorn (in fact it is on the axis of the world). In the current ingress chart, the Moon’s Nodes are close to the position of the 2008 Mars/Pluto opposition. I am sure we all remember that 2008 signaled the beginning of an economic melt down, followed by austerity (massive cutbacks of course in social care, hospital beds, frontline services, etc. ). There is of course nothing buoyant about Jupiter in Capricorn, though Jupiter being Jupiter, it will bring great benefits to some (debt collectors, pawn shops, undertakers, to name just a few).

In the current 2020 ingress chart, while Mars is in much better shape, the Sun is unaspected, apart from its squares to the nodes. Mars is exalted and applying to conjunction with Jupiter in fall in Capricorn. What we are seeing in Europe is severe restrictions to social contact, the closure of bars, cafes, etc. only shops that are essential are remaining open. Social activity, schools, universities, cinemas, theaters, have brought life back to the barest of bones. In the Netherlands, people are being asked only to socialize with their family (how North Node in Cancer is that!). Visits to the sick and elderly are prohibited, unless the family member is dying. In Capricorn season life freezes over – and we can take that literally at the moment. I am however, loving that North Node in Cancer. I find it interesting for example, that the banks are not being baled out, that the treasure chest is being opened to help save small businesses which are now going to receive help. How different to 2008 when the economy was weak and rotten to the core. Having said that, goodness knows the typically Jupiterian sectors of the economy like travel, tourism, etc. are really feeling the pain. Yet Capricorn is an earth sign – and it seems in many places nature is stirring again – awaking from a deep sleep. There are dolphins in the canals in Venice I hear.

Yet the Sun unaspected does show a degree of impotence imo. No leader has it in his or her power, to command this virus at this stage in its development. Where nature is concerned, we should never be complacent. The idea that we can eradicate disease, control it, is an illusion. The natural world is not static and new viruses can teach us a lesson in humility. Fear as ever, is a fantastic motor for change. How long term the effects of corona will be remains to be seen. I think with Mars conjunct Jupiter in the ingress chart, enforcement or stricter control on social spaces – might be the next step – particular if the number of dead rise rapidly.

Below the 2008 Aries ingress for Washington & the 2020 Aries ingress for my home town Amsterdam.
